Cruising the Lower Mississippi

Back in the fall of 2019 I had the opportunity to cruise the lower Mississippi from Memphis to New Orleans. My wife and I came in a day early and stayed in a hotel next door to the home of Elvis Presley. Across the street was a museum. After lunch we went to the museum and also went to his home it was fascinating. Elvis is actually buried at his home. That night we went to Beal Street and went to listen to some Blues music while having local foods. It was a live band.

The following morning after breakfast we boarded a bus which took us on a local tour of Memphis. We saw the site where Martin Luther King Jr was shot. We went to St Judes children’s Hospital and then to the ship. We could not get to our cabin right away. so they had us go to a lounge with some lite snacks. Once we got to our room and unpacked. Plenty of storage space. The room was spacious and so was the bathroom. We had a nice balcony. The top deck was an open deck space. On the deck below we had open space at the back of the ship. There was a place there one could get food such as hamburgers, fries and soft drinks. They had a happy hour every day. The day we got on I asked for an Apricot Sour. They did not have the sour mix. However, they told me that the next day they would have it and they did. They got off the ship and purchased it. They did the same thing for my wife who, on the first night asked for a sugar free salad dressing which they didn’t to have. The next day they did.

We visited Vicksburg and learned about the civil war. We then went to Natchez where we went to a Plantation and learned about slavery. Then we went to Baton Rouge and had a city tour. Our next stop was St Francisville and then on to New Orleans where we had a tour and at night after dinner went to Bourbon Street and enjoyed a drink and some music. We then went back to the ship for our last night on board. The following morning we flew home.

The ships on the U.S. rivers hold no more than 200 guests. The food and service were excellent. The dining room was open sitting and you sat with others. We would certainly go back and do another cruise with them.
